Maayan Shain

Yahel Social Change Fellowship City Coordinator - Rishon & Lod

Born and raised in Rishon LeZion, Maayan discovered her appreciation for the city's diversity only after leaving it. Following high school, she joined a Mechina gap-year program, volunteering with children on the autism spectrum and hospital patients while experiencing kibbutz life and organizing community events. This sparked her passion for inclusive community building.

After military service, Maayan studied Communication and Liberal Arts at Hebrew University in Jerusalem, working in the Foreign Affairs and Donor Relations department hosting international delegations. She later joined the Spokesperson's Office at the Weizmann Institute of Science, discovering her love for making science accessible to the public. Her experience there during the Iranian missile strike taught her valuable lessons about working under pressure and crisis navigation.

Outside work and studies, Maayan dances at her studio several times weekly, reads, befriends animals (with appropriate consent), and embraces her inner theater kid—a creativity she first discovered on stage in high school. She believes emotional resilience and growth are essential life skills that should be taught from a young age, striving to nurture these qualities in herself and others.
